We make trees beautiful

Pruning & Trimming

Great trees need great pruning

Lopping off a few branches or cutting back all the branches to make a tree shorter are NOT the same thing as professional pruning. In fact, those things can make your tree unsafe, cause insect and disease problems, and even kill the tree – not to mention create an unattractive appearance.

MONTGOMERY & BUCKS COUNTIES PRUNING & TRIMMING

How We Trim Trees

How a tree is pruned depends on several factors, including the tree’s health, the tree species, size, and location, as well as what you’re trying to accomplish.

Typically, pruning involves one or more of our expert tree crew using the appropriate tool(s) to make precise pruning cuts in the right places to achieve the desired outcome without harming the tree.

Our professional tree care crews are trained to recognize structural issues while taking into account the tree’s natural tendencies, your tree care goals, and aesthetic concerns. As a result, the pruning cuts made to your trees will best maximize each tree’s unique structure while making them safe and visually appealing.

We follow the ANSI A300 pruning standards.

Great Pruning. Beautiful Trees.

Below are some typical problems residents in our Montgomery & Bucks Counties service areas have with their trees, and the ways in which professional tree trimming and pruning can fix the problem.

    Raising The Canopy

    PROBLEM

    • Your tree is blocking access to buildings or obstructing cars and pedestrians
    • It’s getting in the way of your view

    SOLUTION

By removing selected lower branches from a tree, crown raising can provide additional clearance to open up vistas and restore access.

    Canopy Thinning

    PROBLEM

    • There isn’t enough sunlight or airflow through the center of the tree
    • Your tree has some very heavy branches or lots of branches competing for space
    • Your tree has structural defects and/or is at risk of damage during storms

    SOLUTION

When thinning a tree, branches are selectively pruned out to reduce the density of live branches in the tree canopy. This increases light penetration and air movement throughout the tree, stimulates interior growth and reduces wind resistance (which decreases the risk of storm damage). Done properly, thinning maintains the tree’s natural shape.

    Canopy Reduction

    PROBLEM

    • Your tree is too tall or too wide for the space it’s in
    • It’s encroaching on utility lines or structural elements (such as your roof)
    • You don’t want to cut down the tree but it's just too big

    SOLUTION

Reduction pruning reduces the overall size and/or spread of the tree. This isn't "shearing" or “topping” a tree - it's precision work that cuts each branch at just the right spot to help maintain the overall form, health, and structural integrity of the tree.

    Canopy Cleaning

    PROBLEM

    • You can see dead, dying, diseased, crowded, or spindly branches throughout the tree

    SOLUTION

Crown cleaning involves the removal of all branches that aren’t contributing to the overall health and appearance of the tree. We can also remove items that shouldn’t be in the tree canopy. The end result is a healthier and better-shaped tree.

We Do Not Top Trees

All of our tree pruning work is done according to the ANSI A300 standards used by professional arborists. That's why we don't top trees - not only is it detrimental to the health of the tree, it also creates a dangerous tree that looks bad and will likely never recover its natural shape. Why Should You Get Your Montgomery or Bucks County Trees Pruned?

Why?

Many people never get their trees pruned. So why should you do it?

Here are some of the many reasons why trees in an urban or suburban setting should be pruned regularly -

  • Diseased, dead, or storm-damaged branches look ugly and could hurt someone (it's often not a matter of if those branches will fail, it's just a matter of when)
  • New growth will have more space and better air circulation (which makes for a healthier tree) when the tree is thinned
  • When a tree gets too tall, the only safe and proper way to make it smaller is through crown reduction (note that we do NOT top trees)
  • Sometimes branches block walkways or hit your house - these must be properly pruned to allow access or stop damage to your home
  • If a tree is blocking your view, pruning can open up and enhance your view
  • When a tree is poorly shaped, pruning will help it look better
  • A tree that's "top-heavy" is a safety risk during storms
  • Deadwood is a hazardous and potential source of disease and decay. Pruning to remove disease-infected and/or insect-infested branches can help minimize the chance of those problems spreading and can reduce the need for pesticide applications in some cases.

Who?

There are many providers in the Montgomery County & Bucks County areas who say they can "prune your trees." But they're not all equal.

Always look for an ISA Certified company and ask if they have proof of general liability insurance specifically for tree work, as well as workers' compensation insurance.
